Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue
There is so much explanation on the internet about chronic adrenal fatigue symptoms, what is adrenal fatigue, adrenal fatigue tests, and how the adrenals work, so I won’t go into too much detail here.
A little explanation on the adrenals… The adrenals are part of the endocrine system. Adrenal weakness encompasses different systems, so it will affect the nervous system, the endocrine system, the digestive system, and reproductive systems. The adrenal glands sit just over the kidneys, and play huge differing roles in the body, secreting over 50 hormones! Your adrenal gland hormones are so so vital. The common adrenal fatigue supplements don’t support these delicate glands in the long run. But a permanent adrenal fatigue treatment will be posted on this site.
More progressive stages of adrenal gland disorders will have more of the following symptoms of adrenal fatigue than less chronic cases:
Dependence on coffee, need for stimulants
Low sex drive
Blood sugar problems or digestive problems
Reduced memory or ability to concentrate
Dizziness when standing up too quickly
Food cravings- especially salt and sugar
Impaired immune function- getting sick more often
Apathy, disinterest, lack of enthusiasm,
Inability to focus
Respiratory problems, asthma
Vulnerable to infection
Chronic inflammation, autoimmune diseases
Dark circles under the eyes
Extreme tiredness an hour after exercise
Lines in your fingertips
Loss of muscle tone, muscular weakness
Low blood pressure
Lower back pain
Numbness in your fingers / Poor circulation
“Wired but tired”
Difficulty in waking up, even when you sleep a lot
Whole morning fatigue
Afternoon “low” (feelings of sleepiness or clouded thinking) from 2 to 4 p.m.
Tired all day, then a boost in energy in the late evening, due to disrupted cortisol cylces
Difficulty falling asleep
Disrupted sleep cycles
Increased PMS or menopausal symptoms
Decreased ability to handle stress
High stress levels or always feeling like there is too much to do
Inability to handle foods high in potassium or carbohydrates unless they’re combined with fats and protein
So, this is a pretty long list but if you suffer from many of these, it’s likely you have adrenal fatigue, especially since Dr Morse says 80% of the world’s population has it. Now, you just need to focus on the treatment for adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal Fatigue Test
Diagnosis from a single test or symptom is not possible. Doctors and naturopaths look at a range of tests and symptoms. May require several visits to the doctor. Many go undiagnosed. A woman went to 37 doctors before finally receiving proper diagnosis. Medical doctors are only taught to look for extreme adrenal malfunction (Addison’s Disease or Cushing’s Syndrome). The reality is, as Dr Morse says, that most of humankind, especially in the western world have severe adrenal weakness. It’s safe to assume we all have adrenal weakness, in this day and age.
If you are not sure whether you have adrenal fatigue, adopting an adrenal fatigue diet and lifestyle as outlined on this site won’t hurt you even if you don’t think you have adrenal fatigue. Here are some home tests anyway:
The Pupil Contraction Test. Look into a mirror and shine a flashlight into the pupil of one eye for 30 secs. It should contract. If after 30 seconds, it stays the same or, even worse, dilates, you most likely have adrenal fatigue.
Blood Pressure test. Take your blood pressure while sitting down. Then, stand up and immediately take your blood pressure again. Your systolic number (1st number) should have raised 8 to 10 mm. If it dropped, you probably have adrenal fatigue.
Some other tests: Saliva cortisol testing, Thyroid blood tests can also show up adrenal weakness because it’s all part of the endocrine system.
What’s the cause of Adrenal Fatigue?
I have read so many silly suggestions as to the causes of Adrenal Fatigue. The cause is not sleep deprivation, single parenting, sudden life changes, loss of job, moving home, emotional trauma, college life, all work/ little play, perfectionist mentality. However, I have no doubt that these things exasberate the problem, definitely! But the real cause is so unknown to many people that they make up these lists of side issues because they don’t know what’s actually going on. Why is it important to understand the cause? Because we must stop treating the symptoms and start treating the root cause. The actual cause is discussed in the next post, which will show up above this post. The brief answer is this: the lymphatic sewage system is backed up from poor diet and extreme stress. Now, stress is normal and your body can cope with it to some extent, BUT if you have a poor diet, toxins will eventually back up. Take the example of lactic acid being produced when you use your muscles; it’s a normal process and your body can safely eliminate the production of acid IF the sewage system is allowed to flow freely. Your body can cope with high levels of stress very effectively but we need to provide the right environment, i.e. a good diet of high water content food for self-cleansing. That’s it, that’s all we need. And trust me, if you dare to try it, you will feel on top of the world! I could never have imagined how good I would feel. It’s an existence of energy I have never experienced in my life, not even when I was a child. (Now, we can delve into the reasons why someone has a poor diet in the first place, often emotional factors which make it difficult to change habits, and this is a process in itself which I offer help with). I’m excited for you … though I know I don’t know you personally and I can understand how this may sound a bit fake to say, but I do actually feel excited for anyone who reads this and decides to apply it; they may have their life turned around and experience unimaginable vitality. So, I really do mean that I am excited for you, especially if you have bothered to read this far, yes! Go for it! I wish I had this info years ago. I leave you with one task you can do right now: For 3 days, have fruit-only mornings. You can have as much fruit as you want but nothing else. Just see how you feel. Safe journey…
